How Does It Work

  1. Register online with WorldFriends
  2. WFs will send you an enrolment form
  3. Complete the form and return it to WFs, signed by a parent or guardian if you're under 18, along with the Handling Fee payment.
  4. Within a few days, you'll receive your Partnership Registration Number, as well as your username and password to access the system.
  5. Log in and: a) Choose your destination country b) Click on the city you wish to visit c) Select three potential exchange partners based on their profiles d) Submit their partnership references to WFs
  6. WFs will forward your selected partners your photo and the details from your enrolment family form, excluding your full address and contact references.
  7. If one of the selected partners accepts your hospitality offer, WFs will share their contact details with you, including home/email address, phone number, and family information.
  8. Reach out to the proposed host family via WhatsApp, Zoom, Google Meet.
  9. Introduce yourself and your family (see FAQ for advice), get to know each other, and agree on the exchange period.
  10. Inform WFs of the agreed exchange period(s) so we can activate the appropriate insurance cover

* The handling fee of € 100 covers WF operational cost plus 2 weeks insurance premium for Europe and remains valid for 12 months

** If none of the three selected partners accept your offer, you may choose an additional three at no cost. If those are also unsuccessful, your profile will still be visible on our website for up to one year from the date of your first selection, allowing others to contact you

When Does the Exchange Take Place?

Hospitality Exchanges usually take place between June and September. They typically last 1 to 2 weeks, though longer stays can be arranged by mutual agreement.

Sequential (recommended for students aged 13–15)

The visiting student (A) stays with their host (B). At the end of the visit, both (A/B) travel together to student A’s home, possibly accompanied by one of the parents.

Successive

The host student (B) visits student A at a different time (this could be during the same summer, the following summer, or any mutually convenient period).

Family Language Teacher

FLT positions are typically filled by university students who commit to teaching a member of their host family for a minimum of three hours per day (at least 12 hours per week). In exchange, they receive full board accommodation.

This is a cultural and language exchange, not based on hospitality employment.

Please note

  • Host families may also choose to invite their guest to join them on a holiday as part of the home exchange. In such cases, the host family is responsible for covering all transportation and accommodation costs (e.g. hotel, house, or apartment).
  • In 2026, the exchange programme will be limited to European students only. Students from the USA and Canada may apply from December onwards
